A container is a cargo box on a ship or truck. It has a ready-made habitable space and structure and is sought after by many designers in the world. As a senior designer, I was also deeply attracted by the charm of containers. I constantly pondered and studied how to transform containers into livable buildings and how to present architectural works artistically.
One day, I received a commission from Times Real Estate to build a "Times Art Park" space with containers. The construction period was tight. Thanks to the previous precipitation and accumulation, it took only 10 days to complete the design. It took another 7 days. The building was built.
Problem Statement and Project Solution
The architectural structure of the "Times Art Park" is different from the western-style building made of reinforced concrete. The container modification building is like playing with building blocks. According to the needs of use, after stacking, cutting, and splicing, the box body becomes Practical space. The "Times Art Park" is made up of four boxes of different specifications. Two large boxes are juxtaposed and staggered to form the first floor of the building, and then two smaller boxes are overlapped on top to form a top and bottom. Two-story building.
The containers in the public's impression are heavy, tough, and rough, and many container buildings have continued their rough characteristics and are full of industrial flavor. The "Times Art Park" completely subverts the original characteristics of the container. The inside and outside of the house are exquisitely shaped, showing a light, pure and beautiful temperament. On a fine day, the little white houses are hidden among the green trees, and white clouds are floating in the blue sky. There are white clouds in the sky and little white houses on the ground. Both are beautiful and elegant.
Creation Process & Result
"Paint the box body with white, and the container will change from roughness to lightness, and a sense of transparency." The white used here is not pure white, but a little gray and iron powder added to the white. Taste, and shiny metal, so white is very textured. The container shell has corrugated paper-like textures. After painted in white, these textures are like white keys that can be played, with a sense of rhythm that flows silently.
In order to enhance the lightness and transparency of the white house, glass is used in conjunction with the container. Glass doors, floor-to-ceiling glass walls, and glass handrails on the terrace allow people who stand outside to watch the white house to see the elegant window screens and the leisurely terrace inside the house through the glass. The leisurely life breath is transmitted through the glass. Two rows of green bamboos were planted under the outer wall of the house. The slenderness of the bamboo broke the dullness of the steel structure.
Through ingenious design and modification, the original bulk and ruggedness of the container are gone, completely transformed into a light, beautiful and exquisite art space. The building itself is a work of art with rich ornamental value.
How does the project reflect the exhibition theme "Cultural Bay Area • Humanistic Design"?
A white, geometric house, full of artistic temperament up and down the house, naturally blending with the surrounding trees. A few months later, this house reappeared under the Kapok tree beside the Rainbow Bridge in the West End. It turned out to be a movable house!
In fact, it can be relocated and assembled many times without affecting the service life of the house. Therefore, the overall relocation has become a major advantage of container construction. It also has the characteristics of convenient disassembly and assembly, convenient transportation, and stability. It is especially suitable for the construction of exhibition halls, temporary buildings and residences that need to be relocated.
It is really not a simple matter for young people to buy a house on their own, and the houses are fixed, but people cannot guarantee that they will live in the same city forever. Compared with the RV" Times Meichen Container Outreach and Book Bar "The design is more belonging, warm, convenient and free. The container building has become a high-end mobile modular house. Each container is an independent building block. You can freely construct a dream house according to your personal preferences.
